BALANCED GUIDANCE

Not Everything Is Sihr

The honest, balanced guidance that most Ruqyah websites will not give you

If you are reading this page you are most likely going through something real and difficult. That experience is valid. What you are feeling is real.

“Indeed, we have heard a wondrous Qur’an. It guides to the right way, so we have believed in it.”
Surah Al-Jinn · 72:1–2

The balanced and honest position

Not every headache is Sihr, not every bad dream is jinn, not every failing marriage is the result of black magic, and not every difficult period in life is a spiritual attack.

The Honest And Balanced Guidance That Genuine Islamic Scholarship Requires.

Because one of the greatest harms in the world of Ruqyah is not Sihr itself. It is the wrongful attribution of everything to Sihr, Ayn, or jinn when the actual cause is something else entirely.

This page is written out of genuine care. It is not dismissing spiritual affliction. Ayn is real. Sihr is real. Maas is real. This website exists because of that reality.

Jinn are therefore not uniformly evil or hostile. Like humans, they are described as having different beliefs and ways. In the context of Ruqyah, the concern is harmful contact or affliction attributed to hostile jinn.

Poor communication

Poor communication.

Unresolved arguments and resentment

Resentment that built over years.

Lack of intimacy

Emotional disconnection rather than spiritual cause.

Financial pressure

Financial pressure and the stress it creates.

Anger management issues

Anger management issues.

Incompatibility

Incompatibility that was never addressed.

Trauma from before marriage

Trauma from before the marriage that was never healed.

Different expectations

Different expectations that were never discussed.

When every marriage problem becomes labelled as Sihr

When every marriage problem becomes labelled as Sihr several things happen. The actual causes are never addressed. The work that could save the marriage is never done. The blame is placed externally removing any personal accountability. And the marriage ends not because of Sihr but because of the unaddressed reality underneath.

The Most Common Misattribution.

Couples experiencing serious relationship difficulties rush to label it as Sihr of separation without first examining what is actually happening between them.

Real Conditions Needing Real Treatment.

Anxiety. Depression. Panic attacks. OCD. Intrusive thoughts. Psychosis. Post traumatic stress. Bipolar disorder. These are real medical conditions with real neurological and psychological causes. They are not caused by jinn. They do not resolve through Ruqyah alone.

People experiencing these conditions have come convinced they are possessed because someone online told them every symptom is jinn. Some genuinely did have spiritual issues alongside their mental health condition. But many ignored medical help completely and became worse as a result.

Allah has not created a disease except that He has created a cure for it.”

Reported in Sahih Bukhari 5678.

Refusing medical treatment for a genuine mental health condition because you believe it is Sihr is not following the Sunnah. The Prophet peace be upon him sought medical treatment. Medical treatment is not a contradiction of faith. It is part of following the Sunnah.

Signs that suggest a primarily mental health rather than spiritual cause:

A clear psychological trauma or life event preceded the symptoms

Symptoms fit recognised mental health patterns consistently

No reactivity to Quran or
Ruqyah

No timing patterns connected to social exposure, gatherings, or the Quran

Improvement with therapy, lifestyle change, or medication

Family history of mental health conditions

This does not mean Ruqyah should be stopped. The Quran benefits everyone. But it should not replace medical and psychological care when that care is what is genuinely needed.

Not Every Bad Day Is A Spiritual Attack

One of the patterns that comes from excessive focus on spiritual causes is the attribution of ordinary life difficulties to Sihr or jinn.

A fox seen near the house.

A bad dream.

An argument with a neighbour.

A run of bad luck.

A creak in the floorboards at night.

Children behaving badly.

An unusual smell.

A coincidence that felt strange.

The Prophet peace be upon him himself sought medical opinion. Islam does not teach us to ignore medical causes in favour of spiritual explanations.

“The Prophet peace be upon him said that calamity and difficulty are part of the believer's life and that Allah uses them to raise the believer's rank and expiate their sins.”

Reported in Sahih Muslim 2573.

HOW A HOLD IS DESCRIBED

Desire and anger are described as two vulnerable doors.

Classical discussions attributed to Ibn Taymiyyah emphasise strengthening the heart through remembrance of Allah and reducing spiritual vulnerability.

Desire

Unchecked desires, habits, and attachments can distract a person from obedience, self-control, and remembrance of Allah.

Anger

Uncontrolled anger can weaken judgment and restraint. Patience, tawbah, dhikr, and healthy emotional regulation strengthen the person instead.

Strengthening Protection

Neglect of salah and adhkar, harmful habits, occult involvement, and extreme fear can become areas to address in a treatment plan.

Neglect of salah & adhkar

Rebuild consistency in obligatory worship and established morning and evening remembrance.

Persistent major sins

Address habits involving the gaze, tongue, unlawful relationships, and other serious disobedience.

Practices that distance the heart

Review habits and environments that repeatedly pull attention away from Allah.

Extreme fear of jinn

Constant fear can itself become a source of distress. Keep tawakkul stronger than fear.

Persistent intrusive thoughts or whispers

Thoughts that feel unwanted, repetitive, or difficult to control can be distressing and deserve a balanced assessment.

A sense of presence

Some people report feeling watched or sensing a presence, especially at night or when alone.

Unexplained fear in particular places

Fear connected to a room or location can have many possible explanations and should not be treated as proof.

Physical sensations or pain

Unusual sensations, movement, or pain require appropriate medical attention when persistent or concerning.

Strong reactions to Qur’an or adhan

Some people report emotional or physical responses during recitation; these responses are not diagnostic by themselves.

Sleep disturbance

Frequent waking, sleep paralysis, vivid dreams, or poor sleep can be distressing and also have established sleep-related causes.

Feeling unlike yourself during episodes

Periods of feeling detached or out of control deserve careful evaluation rather than immediate assumptions about possession.

Behaviour changes noticed by others

Sudden changes reported by close family can be important information for both spiritual and professional assessment.

Sudden extreme emotional reactions

Strong reactions that appear disproportionate or unexpected should be considered in the wider context.

Signs that may be considered alongside the full picture.

None of these signs is individually definitive. They should be approached carefully, with spiritual support where appropriate and professional assessment when needed.

THE TRUTH ABOUT JINN

Five misconceptions that can cause real harm.

A balanced Ruqyah approach protects the person not only spiritually, but also from fear, false accusations, and delayed professional care.

Every strange symptom means jinn possession

True possession should not be assumed from unusual symptoms alone. Anxiety, depression, sleep deprivation, trauma, stress, neurological conditions, and other medical issues can produce experiences that people may misinterpret.

Jinn are unstoppable

This is inconsistent with the Islamic understanding of Allah’s complete authority. Jinn are created beings, not independent powers. The believer is encouraged to maintain Tawheed, worship, dhikr, and the protections taught in the Sunnah.

Everything a jinn says during Ruqyah is true

Claims made during intense spiritual experiences should never be treated as reliable evidence. Do not accuse relatives or make major decisions because someone claims a jinn named a person, described Sihr, or provided a story.

Every mental-health condition is caused by jinn

Depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis, trauma-related symptoms, and other mental-health conditions can require professional treatment. Islam does not require choosing between spiritual care and appropriate healthcare.

You need a special person with unique abilities

Consistent salah, morning and evening adhkar, Qur’an, tawbah, and healthier habits are foundational. Avoid dependency on dramatic claims, personality cults, or people who present themselves as having special unseen powers.

TREATMENT FOR MAAS

Rebuild the foundations of protection

The treatment approach presented here centres on worship, Qur’an, authentic adhkar, lawful Ruqyah, and appropriate professional support where symptoms require it.

“Shaytan flees from the home in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited.”

Sahih Muslim 780

Maintain the obligatory prayers

Protect the foundations first: salah, Tawheed, repentance, and consistent remembrance of Allah.

Morning & evening adhkar

Keep established daily adhkar consistent rather than relying only on crisis-based sessions.

Recite Surah Al-Baqarah in the home

The page content highlights regular recitation as an important practical measure for the home.

Lawful Ruqyah practices

Depending on the treatment plan, traditional Ruqyah may include Qur’anic recitation, Ruqyah water, and other lawful supportive practices.

Family support during severe episodes

For serious suspected possession cases, a trusted family member should be present during Ruqyah to support safety and the person’s wellbeing.

Professional medical or mental-health support

Persistent or severe symptoms should also be evaluated by appropriately qualified professionals. Spiritual care and healthcare can coexist.

Approach Ruqyah with knowledge, balance, and tawakkul.

The self-check should help you reflect on patterns and decide what kind of support may be appropriate. It should not create fear or replace professional assessment when that is needed.
